At your first visit, a physical therapist will conduct a comprehensive evaluation tailored to your specific concerns. This includes a detailed history, consent for treatment, and possibly an internal pelvic floor assessment. The therapist may also assess mobility and muscle function in the abdomen, hips, and spine. Based on these findings, a personalized treatment plan will be developed to address issues such as pain, weakness, or poor muscle coordination.
Pelvic health problems that may benefit from physical therapy can include the following conditions.
Weak or injured pelvic floor muscles may contribute to incontinence or pelvic pain. Causes may include childbirth, illness, aging, cancer or trauma. Treatment may include core strengthening, biofeedback and soft tissue work such as myofascial release.
Pelvic floor physical therapy is a conservative treatment option to address pelvic pain and bowel or bladder control problems.
Don’t let any of these issues affect your daily life. Talk to your provider about a referral to Southcoast Rehab Services.
