Dr. Harrison graduated from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where he also completed his residency in neurosurgery. He subsequently joined the faculty at the University of Arkansas, where he finished subspecialty training with a fellowship in skull base surgery.
Dr. Harrison served as a staff neurosurgeon and chief of Neurosurgery at the David Grant U.S. Air Force Medical Center in California, as a staff neurosurgeon at the Southwest Washington Medical Center and most recently at Rhode Island Hospital.
He has extensive experience and expertise in a range of neurosurgery including spine surgery and complex brain surgery.
Dr. Harrison brings special expertise in skull base surgery, which involves procedures in some of the most complex areas of the brain where it exits the skull to the spine. Here, the blood supply to the brain enters the skull and the cranial nerves exit. Previously, patients have had to travel outside of the region for this highly complex surgery, which may be used to treat brain tumors and other conditions. Dr. Harrison has conducted research and published widely on topics concerning skull base surgery, including treatment for meningioma, usually benign brain tumors that often are located at the base of the skull. He has also conducted research and published widely on surgical treatment for a range of cervical and spine problems.
Dr. Harrison is board certified in neurological surgery.
